Dr Subhash Chandra Chakraborty is currently the Director General, Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) and National Coordinator (NC), Bay of Bengal Large Marine Ecosystem (BOBLME) Project, Bangladesh. He completed his Ph. D. from the famous Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling, Scotland, UK in 1992 and did the Post-doctoral from the same institute in 2001. Dr Chakraborty has vast experience and specialization on fish nutrition, fish energetics, post-harvest technology (fish preservation, fish processing technology and handling), fish processing biochemistry and microbiology; fish product technology; Advanced fishing technology; fishers livelihood, and quality control. Dr Chakraborty has a teaching experience of 31 years in the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels in the Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh.
 
Dr Chakraborty has to his credit a track record of 57 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed scientific journals both at home and abroad. He is a member of different scientific societies.

Mr Mya Than Tun graduated in 1979 from Rangoon (Yangon) Art and Science University with a BSc in Zoology with an Ichthyology special, and he completed his MSc, F – 1 in 1980. Mr Mya Than Tun started his work as a Research Assistant with the Marine Fisheries Resources Survey and Research Unit, established by FAO. From 1980 to present (April 2011), he has conducted marine fisheries research activities with FAO experts, and other international scientists, and he is now the Assistant Director of the Department Of Fisheries of the Ministry Of Livestock And Fisheries. In 1994, he the Coastal Research and Resources Management Program (Thailand) and in 1999, he took the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Technique and Open Scuba Diver course with PADI (Viet Nam). He participated in the Preliminary Survey of Coral Reef at Rakhine Coast and Myeik (Mergui) Archipelago and in 2002, in the First Myanmar – India Oceanography Expedition Cruise in collaboration with Indian scientists and studied Chemistry and Oceanography at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Goa India.
 
In 2002, he collaborated with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and conducted the first expedition of the Irrawaddy (Ayeyarwady) dolphin survey of the entire length of Irrawaddy River. He also established the Environment and Endangered Aquatic Animals Conservation Unit. In 2005 he proposed and established the protected Ayeyarwady Dolphin Protected Area at Ayeyarwady River.
 
Presently (April 2011) apart from his involvement in the BOBLME Project as National Coordinator, he is conducting the Ayeyarwady Dolphin Research and Conservation Programme in the Ayeyarwady River. He also collaborates with Wildlife Conservation Society as Coordinator and he conducts cetacean research activities with WCS. Dr S.S.K. Haputhantri graduated with a B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Mathematics from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 1994 and a MSc degree in Industrial Mathematics from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka in 2000 and a Ph.D. degree in Fish Population Dynamics with the title très honorable (high level) from the Ecole Nationale Superieure Agronomique de Toulouse (ENSAT), France in 2004. He started his carrier in 1994 as an Assistant Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Colombo. In 1997, he has joined as a Research Officer with NARA, the principal national institute in Sri Lanka charged with the responsibility of carrying out and coordinating research, development and management activities on the subject of aquatic resources. Dr Haputhantri is presently the Head of the Marine Biological Resources Division. While serving for NARA, he is providing his service as a resource person for several national government organizations in Sri Lanka.
 
Dr Haputhantri has conducted research on various aspects ranging from the assessments of small pelagic fish, food web analysis in the coastal fishery of Sri Lanka, climate change and fishing impact on the marine fish and developing sampling strategies for fishery dependent data collection etc. He was a UNU (United Nations University) Fellow at Marine Research Institute in Iceland and a Visiting Scientist at Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT) in Germany. Dr Haputhantri has published several research papers in both local and international journals. He and his co-authors won the GOPAL KANJI PRIZE – 2009 (Runner up) for the best article published in the Journal of Applied Statistics in 2009. Collapse

 

Ms Praulai Nootmorn

Ms Nootmorn graduated with B.S. degree in Fisheries from Kasetsart University in 1984, and went on to complete her M.S. in Fisheries Science from Kasetsart University in 1989. After 23 years of service to the same organization, she is current Director of the Andaman Sea Fisheries Research and Development Center in Phuket, Thailand. She is an expert in the fisheries, and marine resources of Thailand, and has substantial experience in project management in coastal resources assessment, data collection schemes through participatory approach techniques, and has worked on numerous fisheries projects involving close connection to the fishing communities at all levels of operation. She has contributed to a long list of National and International fisheries initiatives, research projects, and collaborative fisheries management projects, and has published many papers and contributed to many more.
