Mr K.A.I.D Silva started his carrier just after finishing his high school studies by joining the Department of Wildlife Conservation as a Game Ranger. He served in one of the largest national parks in Sri Lanka. It is while he was serving there that he was selected to follow a B.Sc course in Agriculture.

After graduating from the university, he joined as a Fodder Development Specialist in the Dairy Development Sector of the Nestle Lanka Ltd. After serving three years there, he joined the Department of Agriculture, Sri Lanka as an Agriculture Officer and carried out many Agricultural Extension activities for farmers in Inter-provincial Irrigation systems of the country. During his service at the Department of Agriculture, he produced a number of documentary E-media documentaries on best practices in food production. During his tenure in the Department of Agriculture, he got the opportunity to further his educational carrier by continuing his studies at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and obtained an M.Sc in the field of Natural Resources Management and a PG Diploma in the field of Wildlife Ecology and Management.

After his post graduate studies, he got the opportunity to join the Ministry of Environment as a Deputy Director, and served in the fields of Policy, Planning and Biodiversity. Currently (06-April-2011), he is holding the position of Director in charge of the Policy and Planning Division of Ministry of Environment. During his tenure at the Ministry of Environment, he participated in numerous overseas conferences, seminars, workshops and training which included several SBSTTA meetings of the Convention on Biological Diversity and UNFCC.

Mr K.A.I.D Silva is currently (06-April-2011) a member of the following bodies.
